A photography workshop for curious kids as part of the South Australian 🌿 Nature Festival FLOW 2025

🌿 “Nature in Focus: Light, Life & Flow” is a heartfelt, explorative children’s photography workshop that gently guides kids into a deeper relationship with nature through play, observation, creativity—and light. In the spirit of the South Australian Nature Festival, it reminds us that nature is not something separate from us… It’s where we belong.

Held at Duthy Street Art Supplies in Unley, a creative, happy and safe place to learn.

🌈 Kids’ Photographic Workshop: Flow Through the Lens

Workshop Overview

Let’s explore the wonder of nature—not just with our eyes, but through the lens of light. In this joyful, hands-on workshop, kids will use a camera to slow down, look closer, and discover how light, water, movement, and stillness flow through the world around us.

We’ll head out on a photo safari in the Duthy Street courtyard, learn simple photography techniques, and explore how seeing nature differently can help us feel more connected, calm, and creative.

🌀 Workshop Theme: 🌿 Flow

From light dancing on water to the breeze through the trees—and even the rhythm of our own breath—we’ll follow the idea of 🌿 FLOW through photography.

Together, we’ll explore questions like:

• How does light move through leaves?

• How does light reflect off water?

• What flows through your favourite place in nature?

📸 What We’ll Do

• Welcome + Introduction: What is photography? How can we capture light?

• Show & Tell: Bring along a photo you love—what makes it special?

• Nature Photo Quest: Explore nature’s flow in the Duthy Street courtyard.

• Creative Prompts:

  • Find something that flows

  • Look for dancing shadows

  • Capture patterns or stillness in nature

  • Zoom in: find flow in the details (like the veins in leaves)

  • Ask: How does nature make you feel?

• Group Reflection:

  • Breathing exercise to feel the flow of breath, light, and sound

  • Share your favourite photo and create a title for it

  • Tell its story to the group

🎉 Your photos will become part of a digital gallery shared with families and the festival community.
